Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I complete one of the required science prerequisite courses in summer session prior to enrollment in the Professional Program fall term?
No, all required science prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of spring term prior to admission in the fall.  However, if you have completed either microbiology, biochemistry, or genetics contact Pat Solberg in the CLS Program at solbe002@umn.edu.  She will define if you can apply in your situation after looking at your specific courses that are completed.
  1. When should I start to complete the immunization requirement for the Program?
We suggest that you start the summer before the year that you are applying for a fall term admission.  The entire requirement must be completed prior to admission and enrollment in the Program.

  2. What GPA do I need to get admitted?
The minimum preferred is 2.5.  However, we look at the cumulative and required science course GPA when processing applications.  The average has been around 3.32.  Refer to the admissions website at admissions.tc.umn.edu and review the transfer guide to see what GPA was calculated for fall admissions last year.

  3. What are your deadlines?
We suggest that you apply after fall grades are posted and before March 1 (preferred deadline) for the fall term admission.  Our scholarship application is due on April 1.

  4. What tips do you have about applying?
Be aware that you apply on-line, submit a fee, and provide official transcripts from all of your schools before anything is processed.  Also, note that after spring grades are posted, submit another official transcript to the Admissions Office to be sure those courses are considered.  If you are a U of M, internal transfer student, a transcript and application fee does not apply..
